Distinguishing Features

Free floating aquatic plants reduced to small, leaf-like, poorly differentiated fronds; roots and veins present. Differs from Spirodela in having usually 2-7 roots of which all perforate the scale; veins usually 5-7; leaf surrounding the flowers open on one side.

Distribution

One species originally distributed in Australia and Eastern Asia, today world-wide distribution.
